Shirley Mae Harris

Services for Shirley Mae Harris, 77, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lawrence. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence.

Mrs. Harris died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan.

She was born Sept. 13, 1926, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Ernest R. and Jual Suddarth Acher. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1944 and attended Kansas University during World War II.

Mrs. Harris was a homemaker. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and WELCA at the church. She served as the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen coordinator and was a member of the funeral dinner committee at the church.

She married Stanley W. Harris on Nov. 20, 1945, in Lawrence. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Cheryl A. Merrill, Lawrence; two sons, Bryan Harris, Lawrence, and Stanley Harris Jr., San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Donald Acher, McLouth; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A son, Lt. Russell L. Harris, died Feb. 11, 1969.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to the church or American Cancer Society, sent in care of the mortuary.
