Cloudy, wet week ahead

Showers, with an occasional flash of lightning, splattered through the Lawrence area this morning. And more of the wet stuff is expected through the rest of the work week.

“It’s a dreary, dark and damp Tuesday morning,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “If you’re heading outdoors, make sure you grab that umbrella.”

The Lawrence Municipal Airport had recorded 0.13 of an inch by 8 a.m. today.

Off and on showers are expected to continue through mid-morning, with some heavier downpours at times, Schack said. Temperatures were starting in the low 60s this morning and were expected to climb to a high of 66 today, Schack said.

“We stay under the clouds today,” she said The National Weather Service says the chance for showers and thunderstorms is 90 percent today and drops to 30 percent tonight.

Overnight, the low temperature will fall to 58 by early Wednesday morning, Schack said. Wednesday’s high won’t be much warmer than today, climbing to 68, she said. The chance for showers and thunderstorms is 30 percent Wednesday and 20 percent Wednesday night.

The temperature will drop to a low of 59 by early Thursday morning, climbing to a high of 72 by Thursday afternoon. The chance for showers and thunderstorms is 20 percent Thursday and 20 percent Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service.

“It doesn’t look like we break clear of this pattern for a few days. We stay cloudy through Friday,” Schack said.
