Seabury Academy eliminated from Class 1A volleyball regional

? Seabury Academy’s volleyball team went 1-1 at the Class 1A regional tournament Tuesday.

The Seahawks defeated Williamsburg in the first round, 25-18, 25-19. It marked the first time Seabury has defeated Williamsburg in any sport.

In the second round, Seabury fell to Marias des Cygnes, 25-21, 25-11. That loss ended the season for Seabury (16-13).

Junior Lindsey Ahlen had 18 kills, one block and did not miss a serve in 16 attempts.

Senior Laura Frizell had nine kills and a block. Elise Stella, the other senior on the team, “played a wonderful floor game,” Seahawks coach Craig Friedrichsen said.

“When you go into regionals you want to be playing your best volleyball. I think we did that today. Marias beat us a month ago, and we didn’t score 10 in either game. Last year we won seven matches on the year. This year we more than doubled that so I’m very pleased at the progress of this team.”
