Democratic candidate Nancy Boyda said that her first bill introduced in Congress, should she unseat incumbent 2nd District Congressman Jim Ryun, would aim at lowering prescription drug costs by letting the federal government’s Medicaid and Medicare programs negotiate directly with drug companies.

Boyda’s comment was in response to a question posted during an online chat Monday on World Online. Boyda responded to six questions posed by World Online users.

The 2nd District includes western Lawrence. Congressman Jim Ryun is scheduled to participate in a World Online chat at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19.

Incumbent 3rd District Congressman Dennis Moore also participated in an online chat Monday. Moore faces Republican Kris Kobach, who did a World Online chat on Sept. 20.

Moore also commented on legislation relating to prescription drug prices. He has filed a bill that would allow the secretary of Health and Human Services to negotiate lower drug prices for the nation’s 40 million Medicare beneficiaries. He said the bill had 177 co-sponsors in the U.S. House.

Moore also answered six questions during his chat. The 3rd District includes eastern Lawrence.
