Drier conditions moving in

Patchy fog was blanketing some outlying areas around Lawrence this morning. But sunshine is ahead for the afternoon, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

Schack said the fog, which could be dense in spots, should burn off by 10 a.m. and the Lawrence area should see partly cloudy skies after noon.

“You don’t need your coat this morning, or an umbrella,” Schack said. “We stay dry this morning, as well as throughout the day today.”

On Thursday, Lawrence picked up 0.63 of an inch of rain at Lawrence Municipal Airport, although amounts varied throughout the city. The reports called in to 6News ranged from 1.26 in east Lawrence to 1.18 in southwest Lawrence to 1.14 inches at the 6News studio in downtown Lawrence.

The humidity was high this morning, at 93 percent, creating sticky conditions with temperatures in the 60s. But Schack said a cold front moves in later today, bringing in drier air and lowering the dew points.

Today’s temperatures will climb to 68 by noon and 76 by 4 p.m. with partly cloudy skies.

“We drop it down to 50 for the overnight low,” Schack said. Skies will be mostly clear tonight.

Saturday’s skies will be partly cloudy, with the high reaching 72.

“It’s going to be very nice for the Kansas/Kansas-State game,” she said. That football game begins at 6:20 p.m. at Kansas University’s Memorial Stadium.

The temperature will drop to a low of 52 by early Sunday morning. Sunday’s high will be 69 with clouds building and a chance of showers late Sunday night into Monday morning, she said.

The National Weather Service says the chance for rain is 40 percent Sunday, 20 percent Sunday night and 30 percent Monday after 1 p.m.
