Mauler-Meissner

Tanya Marie Mauler and Curt Andrew Meissner, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., were married Oct. 11, 2003, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Scully officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Alvin and Marcelline Mauler, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Norman Meissner, Punta Gorda, Fla., and Charlotte Meissner, Colorado.

Matron of honor was Kathryn Steffens Mitchell. Best man was Scott Adams. Jennifer Guth was lector. Ushers were Leo Mauler and Carl Meissner. Gift bearers were Melinda Meissner, Connie McKee and Lindsey McKee. John and Hope Wagner and Kathy Guth were eucharistic ministers. Rebecca Mauler and Trenton Mauler were altar servers. Music was provided by Charles and Elizabeth Blankenship and Geri Turvey.

A reception was given at Liberty Hall after a wedding promenade through South Park and downtown Lawrence. A traditional grand march was led by Gerald and Lois Mauler.

The bride is a Lawrence High School graduate. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Art Institute. She is a senior designer at Random House.

The groom is a graduate of Manatee High School, Bradenten, Fla. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Florida State University and a master’s degree from Pratt Art Institute. He is an industrial designer.

The couple reside in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Haverty-Hoke

Betsy Jane Haverty, Lawrence, and Jerry John Hoke, Ottawa, were married May 29, 2004, at the home of the bride’s parents with Judge Pro Tem Tim Haverty officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Alvin and Nancy Haverty, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Betty Hoke, Garnett, and the late Gerald Hoke.

Maid of honor was Dina Haverty. Best man was Brian Hoke. Bridesmaid was Jennifer Brown. Groomsman was Brent Hoke. Flower girls were Katy Brown and Lydia Brown. John Haverty read scriptures. Jack Haverty was violinist. Carrie Haverty helped decorate. Reid Nelson was photographer.

A casual dance and reception followed the ceremony at the Lawrence Community Building. Kevin and Sherry Oneslager were callers and gave a few square-dancing tips.

The bride is a 1977 graduate of Lawrence High School and a 1982 graduate of Kansas University. She works for the State of Kansas Health Care Stabilization Fund in Topeka.

The groom is a 1965 graduate of Garnett High School. He is a communications technician for SBC in Topeka.

The couple reside in Lawrence.

Calderon-Olea

Cristina Calderon, Sacramento, Calif., and Ricardo Olea, Lawrence, were married Aug. 21, 2004, at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption in San Francisco with the Rev. Agnel De Heredia officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Rafael and Cristina Calderon, Sacramento. The groom is the son of Ricardo and Lucila Olea, Lawrence.

Maid of honor was Claudia Olea. Best man was David Carttar. Bridesmaids were Geraldine De Leon Ramos, Kerry Duffy, Robin Park, Trina Warren and Vanessa Santos Wong. Groomsmen were Pablo Olea, Don Breslauer, Alejandro Schlagel, Victor Calderon and Brian Dusseault. Flower girls were Isabel Carttar and Amelia Carttar. Ring bearer was Alexander Calderon.

The bride is a graduate of St. Francis High School, Sacramento, Calif., and Santa Clara University. She is an associate engineer for the San Francisco Department of Parking and Traffic.

The groom is a graduate of Lawrence High School and Kansas University. He is an engineer for the San Francisco Department of Parking and Traffic.

The couple reside in San Francisco.

Knuppel-Black

Shelley Knuppel and Aaron A. Black, both of Lawrence, were married Sept. 4, 2004, at Lawrence Wesleyan Church in Lawrence with James Plotts officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Lyle and Sandra Knuppel, Wichita. The groom is the son of Terry and Sue Black, Oberlin.

Matron of honor was Shannon Bhargava. Best man was Kyle Black. Flower girl was Lauren Celeste Bhargava. Ring bearer was Brendan Bhargava. Ushers were Neil Bhargava and Jerry Luther. Hostesses were Karen Blockyou, Debra Sellers and Sue Fox.

A reception was given after the ceremony at the Lawrence Holidome.

Shelley and Aaron Black

The bride is a 1995 high school graduate. She is pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Kansas University. She is a business manager at Allen Press.

The groom is a 1992 high school graduate. He received an associate’s degree from Colby Community College. He is pursuing A-plus certification in computers. He is employed at the Kmart Distribution Center.

The couple reside in Lawrence.

Cowles-Heiserman

Maegan Deon Cowles and Ben F. Heiserman, both of Topeka, were married Aug. 21, 2004, at The Pergola at Lake Shawnee in Topeka with the Rev. Tony Martin officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Melanie Fletcher and Brad Cowles, both of Topeka. She is the granddaughter of Hazel Cowles, Arkansas City, and the late Jack Cowles, and Lee and Wanda Lockridge, Lubbock, Texas. The groom is the son of Fred and Jane Heiserman, Topeka. He is the grandson of Dale and Charlotte Heiserman, Lawrence, and Elliott and Anne Brunton, Perry.

Maid of honor was Jamie Votaw. Bride’s attendants were Brandy Melton and Stacey Stonebraker. Best man was Boomer Poyner. Groom’s attendants were Jared Cobler and Chris Votaw.

Flower girl was Kaydee Votaw. Ring bearer was Tanner Brunton. Ushers were Bren Cowles, Hal Richardson and Chas Lang.

A reception and dance followed the ceremony at The Croco Square. The couple took a honeymoon cruise to the western Caribbean.

They reside in Topeka.
