USC guard picks KU

Rodrick Stewart, the 6-foot-4 sophomore guard from Southern Cal who attended Kansas University’s 91-51 men’s basketball victory Tuesday over Saint Joseph’s, returned home to Seattle late Wednesday night and said he had decided to attend Kansas next semester.

“It was such a great trip. I fit in well with the team. As a unit, they click so well,” Stewart said. “I’ve never seen a place like that.”

Stewart said he had to finish the semester at USC.

“All I can say is, I’m committing,” Stewart said. “I don’t want to go anywhere else. I think that’s the place for me.”

KU’s coaches can’t comment about recruiting in accordance with NCAA rules.

Stewart, who averaged 4.4 points and 2.2 rebounds a game while starting 17 of 27 games his freshman year at USC, had been declared ineligible for the first semester this season because of unspecified academic issues.

If he does enroll at KU for second semester, he would be eligible to play the second semester of the 2005-06 season.
