First Baptist Church

Consecration Sunday is this weekend at First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive.

Parishioners will join together during the 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship services and “take one step up” by bringing their pledges forward for the coming year.

The Rev. Steve Graham, of Second Baptist Church, Liberty, Mo., will be the guest preacher.

The church will have its annual Thanksgiving supper service at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 21.

A holiday craft bazaar will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at First Southern Baptist Church, 4300 W. Sixth St. Proceeds will benefit World Hunger and the women’s ministry.

First United Methodist Church

First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt., will have its fall financial ministry celebration day Sunday.

A jazz combo will greet worshippers in the gathering area between services.

Services at 8:30 a.m., 9:40 a.m. and 11 a.m. will have special music as the church celebrates its many gifts.

Lawrence Wesleyan Church

Dr. Jo Anne Lyon, founder and executive director of World Hope International Inc., a relief and development organization working in 30 countries, will speak Sunday at Lawrence Wesleyan Church, 3705 Clinton Parkway.

Lyon will share personal stories and firsthand knowledge of helping people around the world during the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday services at the church.

Lyon will also sign copies of her book, “The Ultimate Blessing: Discovering the Power and Peace of His Presence,” after services.

Proceeds from the sale of each book will benefit the church’s missionaries.

Lutheran-Episcopal Campus Ministry at Kansas University will begin using Holden Evening Prayer, a meditative service that celebrates the light of Christ in both the light and darkness of life, at 5 p.m. Sunday at 1116 La.

Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship

Holy Spirit Encounter Night will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship, 700 Wakarusa Drive.

The all-church Thanksgiving dinner will be at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 21 in the church building. Worship in the sanctuary will precede dinner. Non-members are welcome and may bring a potluck dish to share, if they wish.

North Lawrence Christian Church

North Lawrence Christian Church, Seventh and Elm streets, will have its harvest dinner after the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service in the fellowship hall.

Last Sunday, the church began a study for young adults and parents at the 10 a.m. Sunday school. The study features Chip Ingram, president of Daily Walk Ministries; it equips parents to “raise effective children in a defective world.” The nine-week program will continue at 10 a.m. Sunday.

A full-hour Kid’s Time worship is at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Plymouth Congregational Church

Ecumenical Church Ministries photo exhibit will be displayed Sunday morning in the Mayflower Room of Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

The new social justice adult education class, which meets at 9:45 a.m. Sundays, continues its discussion on the role of the news media in this year’s presidential election.

The church will have its annual Thanksgiving dinner Nov. 21.

The traditional turkey feast with all the trimmings will begin after the 9:30 a.m. worship service and will continue to be served until 1 p.m.

A concert featuring two bell choirs and two children’s choirs will be offered between the 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. services that day.

Redeemer Lutheran Church

The Rev. Robert Leiste, of Jamestown, N.D., has accepted the call from Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2700 Lawrence Ave., to serve as its pastor.

An installation service for Leiste will be at 4 p.m. Nov. 21.

The church’s annual Thanksgiving potluck will be after the installation service. The meal will begin at 5:30 p.m.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church

The pledge campaign is under way at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St. Pledges can be brought and celebrated at the 7:45 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday services.

The 9 a.m. Praise Team will lead the congregation in worship at the 5:30 p.m. Sunday service.

The fifth- and sixth-grade Sunday school classes will be collecting pet food and supplies for the Lawrence Humane Society.

The junior and senior high youth group continues to collect aluminum cans to benefit Habitat for Humanity.

Parishioners will help supply and serve food Tuesday at the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen.

A spiritual gifts workshop will be Friday and Nov. 20.

Trinity Episcopal Church

The 9:30 a.m. adult forum at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt., will be a continuation of a video series presented by Martin Marty. The title of Sunday’s installment is “The Christian Story, Part V: The Enlightenment.”

Tod Sutton leads a study/discussion of the Bible readings for the day at 9:30 a.m. Sundays in the adult conference room.

Elizabeth Stephens will present and organ recital of compositions by Clarke, Bach, Purcell, Soler and others, on the theme “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue” at 5 p.m. Sunday in the parish hall.

The recital will feature three blues pieces by Joe Utterback, a Kansas University doctoral graduate. A reception for Stephens will follow in the parish hall. Public is invited to attend.

Trinity Lutheran Church

“Grace, Gifts and Gratitude” is the theme for special services Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H.

With a focus on the church’s mission and ministry response, both the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services will be in the church’s fellowship hall. Refreshments will be available after both services.

Church’s long-range planning process continues with two large-group gatherings: from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. today (with coffee and rolls available); and at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, following a light supper.

Women of the ELCA will have its annual holiday bake and craft sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 20 at the church. The event will feature a Scandinavian buffet from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Tickets to the event are on sale at the church. Cost is $12.50 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 10 and free for children younger than 5.

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road, will have a spiritual celebration, “Box Elder Bug Variations,” presented by John Brewer from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Sunday.

Hob Crockett will present a program, “Veterans Remembered,” from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Sunday, followed by coffee and fellowship from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

University Community of Christ

The Midlands Mission Conference, hosted by the Topeka Community of Christ congregation, 5252 S.W. 19th St., will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.

A potluck/Thanksgiving feast will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at University Community of Christ, 1900 University Drive. Meat will be provided; those wishing to contribute to the meal are encouraged to bring side dishes or desserts.

Registrations for the senior high ski trip, “Snow Wonder,” must be submitted by Nov. 25 to youth director Debbie Zabel. The trip to Estes Park, Colo., is scheduled for Dec. 26-30.

Victory Bible Church

Missionary Frank Drown will show “Beyond the Gates of Splendor” at 3 p.m. today at Victory Bible Church, 1942 Mass.

The film is the story of missionaries Nate Saint, Roger Youderian, Ed McNully, Pete Fleming and Jim Elliot, who were killed by tribal Indians (known as Aucas) in 1956 in the jungles of Ecuador.

Drown is the missionary who led a team to find the bodies of the missionaries. Documentary includes testimonies by the widow and their children.

Frank and Marie Drown are the authors of “Mission to the Headhunters,” a first-person account by missionaries in the jungles of Ecuador. Drown narrates the story of pioneering missionary work among headhunting tribes in the 1940s, and the gradual growth of the church among the Shuar and Atshuar peoples.

West Side Presbyterian Church

A dedication of pledges for the 2005 mission of West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive, will bring the stewardship campaign to a close Sunday.

Christian education committee meets at noon Sunday, and the Session will meet at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Dorcas Circle will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday; Martha Circle will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Baby shower for Maelee Folks will be at 10 Nov. 20, given by the women of the church.
