Demolition derby volunteers needed

The second annual “Crashin’ for the Kids” fund-raising demolition derby benefiting the Douglas County Infant-Toddler Coordinating Council is scheduled for Sept. 4 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Volunteers are needed to help. An event coordinator is particularly needed to lead the effort. Additional volunteers will help with publicity, ticket sales and other needs. Immediate volunteer needs

  • Lawrence Memorial Hospital is looking for customer service-oriented people to volunteer with the hospital team. Volunteers are asked to make a three- to six-month commitment for three to four hours once a week. There are many available positions, including radiology transport assistance, gift shop, oncology, infant hearing screening and positions at the LMH South location on Clinton Parkway. The volunteer office is open from 9 a .m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 840-3141 to learn more.
  • The Lawrence Community Theater, 1501 N.H., is looking for youth volunteers to assist with production tasks during the summer. Duties include ushering during productions, running errands, baking cookies, office work, yard work and painting. For more information, call Sandy Blair at 843-7469.
  • Lawrence Habitat for Humanity is looking for a volunteer to serve 15 to 20 hours a week as an assistant to the executive director. Responsibilities include assistance in researching and writing grant proposals, tracking pertinent information for reports, filing and organizational activities. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office software is preferred. This position will support a busy office environment and will be supervised by the executive director, Jean Lilley.
