Four indicted in plot to kill witness in federal drug case

Shooting occurred April 29 in North Lawrence

? Three Lawrence residents were among four people who were indicted on charges of conspiring to kill a witness in a federal drug case.

Named in the indictment were Pamela Tyler, 48, of Kansas City, Kan., and Andrew Ivory, 28, Chaconie Edwards, 27, and Kimberly Sanders, 26, all of Lawrence. All four were indicted for conspiracy to kill a witness, attempting to kill a witness and firearms charges.

The indictment was returned Thursday by a federal grand jury in Kansas City, Kan.

According to the indictment, Tyler conspired with Edwards and Sanders to have another person crash into a vehicle driven by a person they thought was cooperating in a drug case against Ivory.

The victim was shot in the legs during the alleged attack on April 29 in Lawrence but was able to get help from another driver.

News reports at the time said a woman called police about 7:20 p.m. saying she had been shot. Police found her in her maroon van near Sixth and Vermont streets, where she drove after the shooting.

The woman was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Around the time of the woman’s call, several people reported to police that they heard three shots near Seventh and Locust streets. There, police found a white Pontiac Grand Am askew in the street, surrounded by shattered glass.

Edwards and Sanders were also charged with threatening and intimidating a witness during a telephone conversation and Ivory, Tyler and Valerie Cheek, 40, of Lawrence, also were indicted on drug charges.
