Kerry Web site gets millionth contributor

? Before this year, Cathy Weigel had never made a donation to a political campaign. She said President Bush’s handling of the war in Iraq changed that.

Tuesday, Weigel received a phone call from Democratic presidential contender John Kerry after she became the millionth person to sign up to support his campaign via Kerry’s Web site. Weigel donated $50, the same amount she gave earlier this year to interest group MoveOn.org.

“If George Bush wins in November, I’ve got to move to Canada or something,” Weigel said as she awaited the senator’s call. “I just cannot stand the way things are going.”

A Bush spokesman countered the president had plenty of supporters in the state.

“Missouri is Bush country,” said Rep. Kenny Hulshof, R-Mo. “It was in 2000, and we’re confident it will be in 2004. The president has received tremendous support from Missouri, both in terms of money and manpower.”
