Tyler Gill will receive his Eagle Scout award at 10:30 a.m. today. He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 58 in Lawrence, sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. For his Eagle project, he refurbished a shed for the First Presbyterian preschool. Tyler is an eighth-grader at Southwest Junior High School. He is the son of Tom and Kathy Gill.

  • Boy Scout Troop 62, chartered to the Linwood Lions Club, attended the Order of the Arrow Spring Induction May 14-16 at Camp Naish. Clinton Kissinger and Tommy Schlagel completed their Brotherhood membership. Other Scouts who attended were: Tyler Thomas, Michael Thomas, Mike Kissinger, Joe Kelly, Mathew Beeves and Paul Schlagel. The scouts helped prepare Camp Naish for the summer camping season.
  • Douglas County Girl Scouts recognized various Scouts and leaders during a May 3 meeting at First Presbyterian Church.

Those honored as rookie leaders were: Sherril Bartlett, Nancy Kaul, Mandana Ershadi-Hurt, Barb Schaffer, Patricia Peterson, Mary Dodd, Margaret Carr, Erin Smith-Bird, Erinn Steffen, Kelly Abrams, Jennifer Ebel, Stephanie Foglesong, Cynthia Novinger, Sarah Glas, Cynthia Phillips, Jackie Stone, Debbie Ward, Casey Sorrell, Deborah Corder, Tricia LaRue, Kelly Calvert, Trisha Jameson, Yvonne Ruder, Vicki Collie-Akers, Paula Wimmer, Jacque Fardelmann and Holly Saylor.

Outstanding leaders were: Jodi Trast, Tammy Barta, Jill Hardesty, Melanie Tsosie-Jones, Eileen Phillips, Rebecca Cruse, Deanne Arensberg, Karen Hill, Leslie McCaffrey and Linda Wildgen.

Gwen Macpherson, Rebecca Gant, Heidi Kennedy and Barbara Kruger were named outstanding volunteers.

Marcia West, Lynisha Thomas, Mary Murphy, Lissa Revenew, Cris Bandle, Sarah Harper and Jeannie McClure were recognized as key volunteers.

Special volunteers were: Lessa Terry, Robin Robertson and Lissa Revenew.

Those who earned pins were: Holly Saylor, Patricia Bartell, Aletia Vaughn, Rene Stringer, Lori Miller, Kathleen Sigvaldson and Kirk McClure, five year; Sara Kyriakos, Heather Campbell, Betty Hanson, Misti Shrum and Denise Berland, 10 year; Barb Goff, Mary Murphy, Robin Robertson, Eileen Phillips, Kathy Willis, Nancy Keel and Ann Wimmer, 15 year.

The following junior girl scouts earned their bronze award: Kajsa Mullenix, Myette Simpson, Kate Baringer, Jessica Cooper, Megan Garvin, Allison Burke, Amy Trompeter, Jamie Fischer, Samantha Summers, Shannon Summers and Amanda Davidson.

  • Den 4 of Cub Scout Pack 3051, chartered to Pinckney School, had its final Den meeting of the school year May 10. The Scouts built paper kites to fly May 19 at Prairie Park. The Cubs also brought various toppings for “Monster Banana Splits.”

During the past year, the boys have learned about famous explorers, knots, crafts, food, self-esteem, respect, compass reading, games, drama and teamwork. They plan to attend Bear Camp June 5-6 at Camp Theodore Naish Reservation and Cub Scout Day Camp June 7-11.

They also will be attending Pack 3051 summer activities, including the fishing derby, a round-up and swimming. Cubs who were members of the Den were: Cory Church, Diamond Brockway, Jordan Root, Cameron Reusch, Graham Hosking, Austin Garner and Dakota Zinn. The Den leader was Rod Zinn, and he was helped by Margaret Cameron, Ed Church and Carolyn Church. David Long and Charlie Turner, of Boy Scout Troop 52, served as Den chiefs.

  • Venturing Crew 2052, chartered to St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Lawrence, recently elected new officers. The new officers are: Christy Howard, president; Kathy Lewis, administrative vice president; Alexis Tommer, program vice president; Amanda Frederickson, secretary; Kelsey Garrison, treasurer and Desiree Richmond, chaplain.

The Venture Crew went to Worlds of Fun on May 1 for Boy Scout Weekend. Crew members and adults who attended were: Clarissa Wagner, Alexis Tommer, Kathy Lewis, Sam Box, Christy Howard, Desiree Richmond, Weatherly Butler, Kristin Ohlemeier, Phil Howard, Rose Wagner, Kim Zinn, Megan Burkhart and Jerry Ohlemeier.
