Howell

Alvin and Georgia Howell, Lawrence, plan to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with friends.

Alvin Howell and Georgia Kermoade were married May 24, 1954, in Ottawa.

Al received a bachelor’s degree in 1965 from Kansas University. He opened Howell Creative Studios in 1967 in Lawrence. He still operates the business.

Georgia, a Liberty Memorial High School graduate, attended Lawrence Business College. She worked for Weatherwax & Shirley Accounting for 16 years. She then worked in the Lawrence High School nursing office for 21 years. She retired in 1998.

O’Toole

James and Martha Jean O’Toole, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. May 30 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Lawrence. Their family will be hosts.

A Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated at the 7 a.m. Mass May 30 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence. A family breakfast will be given after Mass.

James O’Toole and Martha Jean Reagan were married May 31, 1954, at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Columbus.

The couple met while attending Pittsburg State University. Jim is a retired Journal-World employee. Jean is a retired business education teacher from Lawrence High School.

The couple’s children are Kathleen Jones, Omaha, Neb.; Patrick O’Toole, Lawrence; and Michael O’Toole, Wheaton, Ill. They have nine grandchildren.

Stewart

George and Donna Stewart, Lawrence, will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. May 30 at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky. Their children will be hosts.

They were married May 29, 1949, at Union Chapel Church in Franklin County.

Their children are Randy and Jadene Stewart, Hamilton, Mont.; Robert and Pamela Larson, West Des Moines, Iowa; Tim and Susan Carlisle, Kansas City, Kan.; Scott Stewart, Chapel Hill, N.C.; and Steve and Kristen Reber, Newton.

The couple request no gifts.

Baker

Ralph and Edna Baker, Omaha, Neb., plan to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with family.

They were married June 3, 1944, in Valley Springs, S.D.

They spent 45 years in Lawrence, where they owned and operated Dari-King, Sixth and Florida streets. They moved to Omaha, Neb., in 1995.

Their children are Karen and Steven Spear, Omaha, Neb. They have one granddaughter.
