The week: In the biggest game of the year for Free State, Ellenbecker was tough as nails on Lawrence High’s lineup Thursday. Ellenbecker had a no-hitter going through five innings, and settled for a 5 1/3-inning performance with seven strikeouts and three hits. With the 7-4 victory over LHS, the Firebirds clinched a spot in next week’s state tournament, and Ellenbecker improved to 5-0 on the season.

Sport: Baseball

The week: Musgrave had his Chargers off to an amazing start, pitching one of the most solid games of the year Monday in the opening round of Class 4A regionals. Musgrave pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout against Prairie View. He struck out 18 of the 21 batters he retired, helping Santa Fe Trail cruise to a 7-0 victory. SFT won two more games this week, and is preparing for the 4A state tournament next week in Salina.
