Cyclones advance

? Jake Sullivan scored 22 points, and Curtis Stinson added 20 to lead Iowa State to a 77-69 win Thursday night over Marquette, sending the Cyclones on their first trip to the NIT’s Final Four.

After trailing by six points midway through the first half, the Cyclones (20-12) took control of the game by outscoring Marquette 31-13 in the final seven minutes of the first half and the first six minutes after the break.

Iowa State used a relentless defense to keep Marquette’s top shooters in check most of the game, holding the Golden Eagles (19-12) to 39-percent shooting and just 33 percent from three-point range.

Travis Diener, who led Conference-USA in scoring, got into foul trouble early and scored 17 points. He left the game late in the second half after injuring his ankle.

Iowa State also got 14 points and 12 rebounds from Jackson Vroman as the Cyclones snapped a three-game losing streak to Marquette.

The Cyclones will play Rutgers in the semifinals Tuesday in New York.

Oregon 65, Notre Dame 61

South Bend, Ind. — Luke Jackson scored the final six points of the game for Oregon, and Andre Joseph led the Ducks with 16.

The Ducks play Michigan (21-11) in an NIT semifinal game Tuesday night.
