NCAA Diving Champ: Kasey Moseley, a junior from Baldwin, won the one-meter diving and finished second on the three-meter board to help North Dakota University finish third in the NCAA Div. II swim championships in Buffalo, N.Y.

Duathlon April 3: God’s Country Off-Road Duathlon will be April 3 on the Lawrence River Trails course.

  • State Mat Champs: Deidre Housworth, Katrina Hayes, Bailey Cole and Brittany Brown of Prairie Fire Wrestling Club captured gold medals at the girls state mat championships in Derby. Second places went to Brianna Hayes, Amanda Morris, Misty Hayes, Kelsey Townsend, Shelby Bowman, Desiree Housworth and Jessica Bowman. Thirds were earned by Dottie Housworth and Kayla Townsend.

  • National Mat Champs: Deidre Housworth and Shelby Bowman of Prairie Fire Wrestling Club won gold medals at the national girls mat championships in St. Joseph, Minn. Seconds went to Misty Hayes and Jessica Bowman. Dottie Housworth and Bailey Cole earned thirds. Sara Hilliard garnered two fourths and Katrina Hayes one. Other placings were Kelsey Townsend, fifth; Kelli Hodges and Kayla Townsend, sixths; and Desiree Housworth, seventh.

  • Warren Advances: Zechariah Warren of the Lawrence Junior Wrestling Club finished fourth in his weight class at the District One meet in Ottawa and qualified for this weekend’s state meet in Topeka.

  • Schmidt Ace: Nathan Schmidt used a 3-iron to ace the par-three, 175-yard No. 8 hole at Eagle Bend Golf Course. Chad Bauman was the witness.

  • Five-Tool Clinic: Five-Tool Baseball School’s spring clinic will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Free State High’s diamond. Walk-up enrollment will begin at 12:30 p.m. For information, call Mike Hill at 766-4916.

  • Swank Advances: Michael Swank of Lawrence is ranked No. 24 on the U.S. Tennis Assn. 12-year-olds list and has qualified for the USTA Spring Nationals April 18-24 in Delray Beach, Fla. Swank won all nine of his matches in his segment qualifier.
  • Youth Volleyball Clinic: Deadline for the city volleyball clinic for grades 4-8 girls is Wednesday. Sessions are scheduled every Saturday in April. For information, call 832-7940.

  • State Gym Champion: Scott Bregman of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy won the floor exercise, vault, parallel bars and high bar in the Junior Elite One level of the state men’s gymnastics championships March 20 in Kansas City, Kan. LGA’s Elliot Yochim was fourth on the rings in Class 6. Other LGA competitors were Nick Lutz, Jake Sakumura, Charlie Arnold, Tanner Smith and Taylor Smith.

  • Softball Honoree: McPherson College catcher Tappy Collette, a junior from Lecompton, was named KCAC softball player of the week after hitting .350 in six games and driving in five runs.

  • Ladyhawks Second: Lawrence Ladyhawks eighth grade girls basketball team was runner-up at last weekend’s K.C. Premiere MAYB Tournament. Team members are Dana DiVilbiss, Alex Gamboa, Heather Garcia, Ashli Hill, Mariya Javed, Emily Lamb, Kayley Lane, Lindsey Murray, Ashley Tucker and Hannah Windholz. Coaches are Anthony Lyles and Angie Brown.
  • McGarity Champ: Brendan McGarity of Kansas School of Gymnastics won the Class 5 all-around at the state championships in Kansas City, Kan. In Class 7, KSG’s Morgan Rego was third and Worth Singles-Smith fifth in all-around. Also competing were Miller Wolf, Akram Laytimi, Nathan Shobe and Eddie Wilson.
