Ernest F. Servaes

? Services for Ernest F. Servaes, 87, Overbrook, will be at 10 a.m. today at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Pomona.

Mr. Servaes died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Brookside Assisted Living Apartments in Overbrook.

He was born Oct. 2, 1916, in Quenemo, the son of Peter Wesley and Flossie Maude (Davis) Servaes. He grew up and attended schools in Quenemo and moved to Pomona in 1936.

Mr. Servaes was a coal miner for 13 years. He also owned and operated Pomona Cafe, owned dump trucks and worked for Kay Paving in Topeka and Perry Jones Quarry. He worked for Martin Marietta as a heavy equipment operator and did road maintenance for Franklin County Public Service. He also drove a school bus for West Franklin District 287 and operated a road maintainer for the city of Pomona.

He married Rachel Faye Mundy on Jan. 8, 1936, in Ottawa. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Connie Sue Hoopes and Vickie Shaw, both of Ottawa; a son, Danny, Pomona; a sister, Ruby M. Brooks, Lawrence; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. until the service hour today at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Pomona United Methodist Church, sent in care of the mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa 66067.
