Shannon Michael McMillen

? Services for Shannon Michael McMillen, 60, Eugene, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Eugene. Private burial will be in Rest-Haven Memorial Park, Eugene.

Mr. McMillen died Saturday, March 13, 2004.

He was born April 25, 1943, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of William Hale and Ernestine (Shelton) McMillen. He graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1961, attended the University of Oregon in Eugene, received a Bachelor of Sciences degree from Kansas University in 1966 and medical degree from the Kansas University School of Medicine in 1971. He completed his internship at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco and his residency in urology at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash. He moved to Eugene in 1979.

Mr. McMillen was in the Kansas Army National Guard in 1965 and served in both active and inactive duty in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1989. He retired as a colonel in 2003. He was a urologist from 1976 to 2004. He was chief of urology at Moncrief Army Hospital in Fort Jackson, S.C.; on active staff of Sacred Heart General Hospital in Eugene, where he served as chief of the department of urology and chief of the department of surgery; and was on active staff at McKenzie Willamette Hospital.

He was a member of the Lane County Medical Society, Oregon Medical Assn., Lane Individual Practice Assn., Medical and Surgical Specialists and Sigma Nu fraternity. He received the Kimbrough Memorial Award as the 1975 Outstanding Senior Urology Resident.

He married Martha Harriette Lanning on July 1, 1967, in Lawrence, Kan. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Michael Shannon, Portland, and Colin Patrick, Eugene; two daughters, Erin McMillen Gustafson, Philadelphia, and Joanna Russell McMillen, Portland; a brother, Bryan Hale, Salt Lake City; and two grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.
