KU to lobby at Capitol to show benefits to state

Kansas University will take over the first floor of the Capitol on Thursday in an effort to increase its state funding.

“KU in the Capitol” will feature 18 booths on the first floor of the Statehouse from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“They’ll be specifically talking about how they serve Kansas,” said Kevin Boatright, interim executive vice chancellor for university relations. “We hear a recurring comment from people that they don’t understand how the university serves the rest of the state, and we hope to address that particular issue.”

Departments and organizations scheduled to participate include the Lied Center, Dole Institute, Office of Admissions and Scholarships and the KU Medical Center’s Wichita and Kansas City, Kan., campuses.

This is the first time KU has held the event. It is part of the integrated marketing campaign under way at the university that examines issues such as increasing state funding, student recruiting and improving KU’s reputation throughout the state.
