Haskell students stabbed during incident on campus

Former student arrested after fight with victims

A 23-year-old former Haskell Indian Nations University student was charged Monday in connection with Saturday stabbings that sent two Haskell students to the hospital.

The students were stabbed several times during an early morning altercation at Coffin Sports Complex on campus.

“We are working with the police and they are working with us,” said Karen Gillis, Haskell dean of students.

Police were called about 4 a.m. Saturday to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after Ramone Addington, 19, and Jeremy Staab, 23, arrived at the emergency room. Both had multiple stab wounds.

Addington was treated and released. Staab was hospitalized and released Monday afternoon.

Shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday, police arrested a 23-year-old former Haskell student, Chadwick Noah. He was charged Monday with two counts of aggravated battery. His bond was set at $15,000. Noah remained Monday in the Douglas County Jail.

Initial reports indicated Addington, Staab and some friends sneaked into the Coffin Sports Complex, intending to go swimming. A fight reportedly broke out when Noah arrived and was told to leave.

It’s unclear whether Noah was alone or part of a larger group.

Gillis called the incident a “prank that unfortunately got out of hand.”

The knife used in the attack has not been recovered, said Sgt. Mike Pattrick, a spokesman for the Lawrence Police Department.
