Mr. Black died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at his home.

He was born March 6, 1920, in McLouth, the son of James David and Kate (Lobb) Black. He graduated from McLouth High School in 1938 and lived most of his life in Lawrence. He attended a government training school at Kansas University.

Mr. Black worked at the O.A. Sutton Plant in Wichita, making aircraft parts for the B-29 bomber, and later for Vornado Fan. He then moved to San Luis Obispo, Calif., to work at General Fireproofing. He returned to Lawrence in 1969 and worked at Gibson’s.

He owned and operated K&A Countryside Market in Oskaloosa until he sold it in 1985. He retired from the market in 1988.

He married Anna Belle Baker on Feb. 14, 1942, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Sharon Sue Wright, Lawrence, and Vicki Winningham, Corsicana, Texas; two sons, Kenneth H. Jr., Dallas, and Dee Jay, Iberia, Mo.; three sisters, Shirley Duncan, Valley Center, Wilma Yardley, Topeka, and Doris Stanfield, El Dorado; five brothers, Dale and James, both of Lawrence, Jerry Lee and Bob, both of Arkansas, and Eldon, Oregon; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Assn. of Topeka, American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of the mortuary.
