Investigators link two more fires to arsonist

Investigators this morning said they’ve linked two more Lawrence fires to a serial arsonist previously suspected of setting fire to books Monday night at Watson Library at Kansas University and starting six fires the past week in Johnson County.

The most recent fires added to the list happened early Wednesday morning, one at 4:12 a.m. at 647 Country Club Terrace and another at 6:33 a.m. at 4900 Clinton Parkway. Each fire caused less than $1500 in damage.

Similar compounds were used to start both fires, investigators with the Douglas County Fire & Medical Department found.

The department is working with the KU Public Safety Office, Johnson County officials, the Kansas State Fire Marshal, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

KU Police on Thursday released a composite sketch of the suspect, described as a white man age 27 to 30 with red hair.
