SF Trail, De Soto advance

? Ailing Lindsay Boss played just the final 6 1/2 minutes Monday night, but she sparked Santa Fe Trail to a 34-30 sub-state victory over Holton.

SFT coach Brenda Dahl put Boss in with the Chargers trailing by five, despite the fact she had been hobbled by an ankle injury.

“My thoughts were absolutely not to put her in,” Dahl said. “She had been cleared to go, but we weren’t going to take any chances. But with about 61/2 minutes left, we were down five, and it got to a point it was do-or-die. She was cleared to go and she wanted to be in there. She sparked us, absolutely.”

Boss gave the Chargers the lead for good with a three-pointer and finished with six points. Tori Rutter led SFT with nine, and Brea Rutter contributed seven.

“It was nice to see the other girls step up and do a nice job,” Dahl said. “We got the lead, then it was down to the free-throw line and holding onto the ball and taking care of it.”

Santa Fe Trail, 13-7 and the sub-state’s third seed, Thursday will face second-seeded Hiawatha at Royal Valley. Hiawatha advanced with a 65-29 thumping of Perry-Lecompton.
