The College World Series was not the only baseball that was being played in Omaha the weekend of June 18-20.

The 14-U Kansas Rebels went 2-2 against teams from across the country in the Easton Super Series Network tournament.

In the first round of pool play, the Rebels played the Cheyenne Raptors despite rain. Base running and defensive errors cost the team in an 8-7 loss.

Hot bats in the seventh inning helped the Rebels to rebound with a 7-4 victory over the Sioux City Blastors in the next round of pool play.

Adam Davey got it started with a double to the gap in right-center field. With two outs and a full count, E.J. Swenson hit a curve ball up the middle that brought home Davey and tied the game. After a Skylar Buttermore single, Joe Kronbrust hit a three-run walk-off home run for the win.

Giving up five runs in the top of the first inning, proved to be the difference in an 8-3 loss to the Broken Arrow Sooners in the Rebels’ next game.

The Rebels ended the tournament with a pounding of the Colorado, 11-0. Everyone on the team had at least one hit, including Davey, who went 3-for-3 with a single, double and a home run. On the mound, Buttermore pitched a complete game, giving up just a run.

The 14-U Rebels also had the opportunity to see a College World Series game, joining the 10-U Rebels to watch Cal State Fullerton defeat South Carolina, 2-0, in the first round at Rosenblatt Stadium.

The 14-U Rebels joined the 12-U Rebels at the Mizuno Wood Bat tournament last weekend in Nevada, Mo. They won the tournament with a 4-1 record.

The 14-U Rebels will compete at the 14-U Major-division USSSA State tournament July 2-4 at Mid-America Sports Complex in Shawnee.
