Mary Viola Clippinger

? Services for Mary Viola Clippinger, 84, Baldwin, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Baldwin. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin.

Mrs. Clippinger died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Baldwin Care Center.

She was born Oct. 3, 1919, in Strasburg, Ohio, the daughter of Philip and Lola Denzer Garver.

She graduated from Strasburg High School in 1937. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1941 from Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio. She graduated in 1944 with a master’s of nursing degree from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland.

She worked at New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Conn., as a nurse and at the Yale University School of Nursing as an instructor from 1944 to 1947. She returned to nursing in 1968 at Kansas University Medical Center, eventually becoming the head nurse of the Infectious Disease Unit. She retired in 1986.

Mrs. Clippinger moved to Baldwin in 1968.

She was involved in the Business and Professional Women and American Association of University Women organizations and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Baldwin.

She married John A. Clippinger in 1944 in Strasburg, Ohio. He died in November 2003.

Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Arthur Clippinger and John Edward Clippinger, both of Baldwin; two sisters, Frances Garver, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and Esther Jeffers, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and a granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Baldwin.
