Altenbernd services

Mrs. Altenbernd died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She had cancer.

She was born Feb. 2, 1953, in Waco, Texas, the daughter of William Dale and Ella Mae Parrott Maness.

She graduated in 1971 from Chickasha (Okla.) High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in art and graduated summa cum laude in 1975 from William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. She worked at Kansas University’s Murphy Library of Art and Architecture and Spencer Museum of Art for 25 years.

She was active on the executive board of the Library Classified Conference for many years, and served as president for two years.

She married Kerry D. Altenbernd on May 31, 1981, in Lawrence. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, William “Zeke” Altenbernd, Baltimore; a daughter, Ella “Katie” Altenbernd, of the home; her mother, Ella Mae Maness, St. Louis; a brother, Joseph D. Maness, Weatherford, Okla.; and two sisters, Cynthia G. Maness and Brenda D. McDonald, both of St. Louis.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to Altenbernd Children’s Educational Fund, sent in care of the funeral home.
