John Warren Beeks
Kansas City, Mo. ? Services for John Warren Beeks, 71, Kansas City, Mo., will be at 4 p.m. Monday at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Mo.
Dr. Beeks died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
He was born Sept. 5, 1932, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Claude Benson and Rosa Kornbrodt Beeks. He attended Bryant School until 1943, when he moved with his family to Baldwin. He attended Kemper Military Academy and Baldwin High School.
He received a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1954 from Baker University, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He received his doctorate of medicine in 1965 from Kansas University. His thesis on cancer research was published in the Journal of the Kansas Medical Society.
Dr. Beeks practiced medicine in the Kansas City area for more than 33 years before he retired in 1999.
He was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Mission Hills Country Club, American Medical Assn., Metropolitan Medical Society, Aerospace Medical Assn., Kansas City Southwest Clinical Society, Southern Medical Assn., Missouri State Medical Society, American Association of Railway Surgeons, Royal Society of Medicine in Great Britain, Navy League of the United States, Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Ararat Shrine, Kansas City Rotary Club and Rotary International. He was past president of the Missouri Society of the Sons of the Revolution 1776, Great Plains College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and a past member of the board of trustees for the Kansas City Rehabilitation Institute and the Kansas City Philharmonic Assn. He served as senior aviation medical examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration and for many years on the board of governors for the American Royal and on the Mayor’s Corps of Progress.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Joan Moherman Beeks, of the home; a daughter, Sarah Beeks Higdon, Mission Hills; and a granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until service time Monday in the church’s Jewell Room.
