Jayhawks land recruit

Newton High offensive lineman Adam Welty (6-foot-6, 270 pounds) has made an oral commitment to play football for Kansas University, according to Jon Kirby of rivals.com.

Welty, KU’s third known commitment for 2005, was recruited by assistant Clint Bowen.

Welty said he also had received interest from Kansas State, Nebraska, Tulsa, Oklahoma State and Missouri.

“It takes a lot of pressure off,” Welty told Kirby. “Now I don’t have to worry about recruiters from colleges coming in to watch me and everything. It was an honor to receive an early offer from Kansas. It is nice to have the recruiting out of the way.”

Kansas earlier received commitments from La Puente, Calif., lineman Jose Rodriguez — the brother of and Kansas City Washington defensive back Darrell Stuckey.
