Ex-director Trovato suing KV Soccer

Soccer coach alleges breach of contract

Former Kaw Valley Soccer Assn. executive director Frank Trovato has filed a lawsuit against the KVSA, alleging breach of contract.

In the petition filed June 8 in Douglas County District Court, Trovato and his attorney, John Hampton, allege the KVSA terminated Trovato’s employment “without any findings consistent with any right they might have had to terminate under the provisions” of the contract.

Trovato signed a four-year contract with the KVSA in January of 2002, but was let go in November of that year. The contract was not due to expire until May 31, 2006.

A condition in the contract states that either party can terminate the deal with a 120-day notice, but Trovato claims Kaw Valley’s termination was unjustified because no legitimate reason supported the move.

He also alleges his firing was decided by a vote of the KVSA board of directors that included “some members who were not eligible for voting membership.”

Trovato is seeking a sum “in excess” of $75,000 for economic and other consequential damages.

Trovato now coaches soccer in Alaska. Hampton is out of town and was not available for comment. Calls to Gerrit de Boer, a member of the KVSA board of directors, were not returned.
