Velma G. Burnam

Graveside services for Velma G. Burnam, 94, Lawrence, will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Ms. Burnam died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Eudora Nursing Center.

She was born Oct. 21, 1909, in Lawrence, the daughter of Elijah and Mary Jane Murphy Hopper.

Ms. Burnam was a homemaker. She worked as a book mender at a library at Kansas University and volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 20 years. She was a member of Worldwide Church of God in Topeka.

A daughter, Joan Reavis, and a grandchild died earlier.

Survivors include two daughters, Rose Marie Mertel, Stilwell, and Janice Hirsh, Independence, Mo.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where family will receive them from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday.

The family suggests memorials to Heart of America Hospice, sent in care of the funeral home.
