Sunshine in forecast for afternoon

Lightning, thunder and rain greeted Lawrence residents this morning. But the wet weather lasted only a short while, leaving behind about a quarter of an inch of rain, said Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

“The rainfall is pretty much out of here for the morning hours,” Sayers said. “Toward the afternoon, we will see more and more sunshine.”

Rainfall amounts varied this morning from about 0.16 of an inch at Lawrence Municipal Airport to 0.35 of an inch in the southern part of the city.

The thermometer reading was expected to climb to a high of 82 today, with partly cloudy skies and humid conditions, Sayers said.

There’s a chance of another storm passing through Friday morning, which might bring heavier rainfall amounts than this morning, he said.

“Expect a wet commute tomorrow,” he said.

However, the rest of Friday is expected to be dry and cool, with the high climbing to 77 and winds 5-15 mph, he said.

Lawrence will have another slight chance of rain Saturday morning, he said. But the rest of the Father’s Day weekend will be dry through Sunday night, he said.

Saturday’s morning low will be 63, with the high reaching 78 by the afternoon. Sunday’s morning low will be 60, with the high reaching 81 Sunday afternoon.
