Blanche Winslow Perkins

Mass of Christian Burial for Blanche Winslow Perkins, 91, Shawnee, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John the Evangelist Church, Lawrence. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Perkins died Friday, June 11, 2004, at Sharon Lane Nursing Home in Shawnee.

She was born April 27, 1913, in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Harry and Lenora Allen Winslow. She graduated from beauty school in Chicago. She lived in Lawrence from 1956 until she moved to Johnson County in early 2004.

Mrs. Perkins was a hairdresser and a homemaker. She and her husband competed in ballroom dancing. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella.

She married Fred Fitzgerald Perkins on Jan. 21, 1931, in Chicago. He died Oct. 31, 1983.

A daughter, Freda Perkins, also died earlier.

Survivors include four grandchildren, Celeste Perkins, Freda Johnson, Linda Fry and Donovan Johnson; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to the Blanche W. Perkins Memorial Fund, sent in care of the mortuary.
