Gabriel R. ‘Chino’ Hernandez

Mass of Christian Burial for Gabriel R. “Chino” Hernandez, 82, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will be in Hubbel Hill Cemetery in Tonganoxie.

Mr. Hernandez died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 10, 1922, in Silao, Guato, Mexico, the son of Candelario and Apolonia Rivas Hernandez. He moved to Lawrence in 1931.

Mr. Hernandez worked for Santa Fe Railroad in Lawrence and for Hercules Army Ammunition Plant in De Soto.

Survivors include two brothers, Joe, Kansas City, Kan., and Jesse, Lawrence; and two sisters, Carmen Gutierrez, San Antonio, and Teresa Schwartz, Lawrence.

A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, where a vigil will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie is in charge of arrangements.
