Sandia K. Leffler Kirby

Services for Sandia K. Leffler Kirby, 33, Bradenton, Fla., will be at noon Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Inurnment will be later at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.

Ms. Kirby died Thursday, July 22, 2004, in Bradenton, of injuries received in an auto accident.

She was born March 9, 1971, in Seoul, South Korea, the daughter of Carol and Marshall Leffler.

She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1989. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in African and African-American studies from Kansas University in 1995.

While studying at the university, she was a Fulbright scholar.

Ms. Kirby worked as a bookkeeper and office manager at a restaurant chain in the Bradenton area. She had formerly worked in Lawrence, Phoenix, Las Vegas and Vermont. She was an equal-opportunity counselor for Immigration and Naturalization Services in Las Vegas, Vermont and Florida.

She married Iain Kirby on Sept. 9, 1999, in Las Vegas. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include her mother, Lawrence; her father, Shawnee; a brother, William J. Leffler, Baldwin; and two half-sisters, Laura Leffler-McCabe and Katie Leffler, both of Shawnee.

The family will greet friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. A reception will be held at South Park Recreation Center after the services.

The family suggests memorials to the United Negro College Fund, sent in care of the mortuary.
