Helen Deel

Ms. Deel died Sunday, July 25, 2004, in Baldwin.

She was born Jan. 14, 1910, in Baldwin, the daughter of Samuel A. and Mary G. Gill Deel.

She graduated from Baldwin High School in 1927. She earned a bachelor’s degree in 1932 from Baker University and a master’s degree in 1934 from Washington State University in Pullman, Wash.

Ms. Deel worked as an associate professor of English at Washburn University in Topeka for 31 years before she retired in 1977.

She was a member of the Chapter DN of PEO in Topeka, Evangeline Chapter No. 162 of Order of the Eastern Star in Baldwin, Topeka Retired Teachers, Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and First United Methodist Church in Topeka.

Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Barnthouse, Baldwin; and a brother, William G. Deel, Baldwin.

Ms. Deel bequeathed her body to the Kansas University Medical Center.
