Area fishing report

CLINTON Lake (updated 7-14) — Water 81 degrees and 2.7 feet below normal pool. Channel catfish good, at times excellent. Limits being reported from baited areas. Best baits include night crawlers, livers, shrimp and stink baits. Some fish being caught in outlet on nightcrawlers. Crappie fair using minnows and jigs at 12-20 feet around brush. Drum good using worms in the outlet. Flathead catfish fair on set lines in Deer Creek arm using green sunfish. White bass good near shad. Five anglers reported catching and releasing 380 one evening over weekend. Any shad imitation lure will work.

PERRY LAKE (updated 7-6) — Water 79 degrees and 4.0 feet over normal pool. The Corps of Engineers is releasing some water so fishing in stilling basin will pick up. Channel catfish good. Spawn is over, and fish have moved back to feeders. Fish the creeks where the water is running in with worms or prepared baits. Also, shad beginning to appear at hog trough, so it’s time to use drifting tactics. Sauger fair off rocky points on the west side by dam, with crankbaits or twisters. White bass fair off rocky points and jetty on twisters or shad-colored crankbaits. White crappie fair on tube jigs or minnows in 10-15 feet on the brushpiles.

DOUGLAS STATE LAKE (updated 7-14) — Water 81 degrees and clear to two feet. Bluegill good near shore and biting readily on nightcrawlers, crickets, small jigs and flies. Carp fair on nightcrawlers, dough baits and fermented whole-kernel corn. Channel catfish fair using poultry liver, nightcrawlers and Bee Jay. Many 5-pounders taken recently. Crappie fair near shore in early morning and evening, mainly on minnows. Flathead catfish poor on goldfish or green sunfish. A 62-pounder was caught recently.

LEAVENWORTH STATE LAKE (updated 7-14) — Water clear. Bluegill and red-ear fair on worms and small minnows under bobber. Channel catfish good using shiners and liver. Crappie fair using medium shiners. Largemouth bass fair on a variety of spinnerbaits, plastic baits, medium shiners and nightcrawlers. Walleye excellent while drifting jigs and nightcrawlers or casting roostertails. Wiper fair chasing shad at the surface over aeration lines on spoons, jigs and small crankbaits.

LONE STAR LAKE (updated 7-14) — Channel catfish good on nightcrawlers, cut bait, stinkbait and liver. Red-ear and bluegill fair on worms under bobber around weeds. Largemouth bass fair in early mornings and late evenings using top water plugs around vegetation.
