Church to honor Mary of Magdala

All women and men of faith are invited to gather in prayer and memory to honor St. Mary Magdala and other women of faith at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky.

The event will be the church’s annual celebration of the feast of Mary of Magdala. There will be a prayer service that will include Scripture, prayer, blessings and a presentation, “It Wasn’t an Accidental Meeting,” by Carole Scott of Tulsa, Okla.

Scott is an author, musician and teacher who speaks at conferences and workshops throughout the Midwest. She and her husband, Bob, direct the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services for the diocese of Tulsa.

Carole Scott is a graduate of Kansas University who has taught in public and private schools. While at KU, she and Bob Scott began the Christian Family Movement on campus and sponsored home visitation with the then-segregated black community.

A graduate of the Chrism Institute, Carole Scott has reached into the treasury of the Catholic Church’s saints and into the lives of biblical women to bring a timely message to God’s daughters and sons.

The event is free and open to the public.
