Cub Scout Pack 3071, chartered to the Veterans of Foreign War, recently had its Pinewood Derby. The winners were Chase Reiling, first; Brandon Baston, second; Andrew McNish, third; and Lucas Cooper, fourth. Tyler Denny won an award for the best paint job. Gavin Fischer won an award for unique design. Mason Jupe was recognized for best craftsmanship.

Open division winners were William Harnar, first; Chad Boyd, second; and Cameron Stussie, third.

The Pelathe District had its annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner on Jan. 10 at the First United Methodist Church. Guest speaker was Richard Boeshaar, council commissioner for Heart of America Council.

Boy Scout Troop 59 received the Most Represented Unit Award. Troop 65 received the Camping Award for having the highest percentage of boys on campouts. Venture Crew 2052 received the Coolest Campout Award. The following awards were given to individuals: Mark Shuck, Boy Scout Roundtable; Phil Struble and Landplan Engineering Inc., Character Counts; Annelee Marsh, Tammy Barta and Jerry Ohlemeier, Commissioner Service; Tom Sheely, District Committee; Pat Donahue and Martin Pressgrove, Award of Merit, the highest award for Scouters at the District Level.

Cub Scout Pack 3055, chartered to the Westside Presbyterian Church, had its annual Pinewood Derby on Jan. 24 at Sunset Hill School.

The Pack winners were Nicholas Schmidt, first; Chase Langston, second; and Jacob Holiday, third.

Den winners were Jacob Holiday, first, Tiger Cub; Will Dalager, second, Tiger Cub; Sam Pyle, first, Wolf; James Lindsey, second, Wolf; Chase Langston, first, Bear; John McCain, second, Bear; Nicholas Schmidt, first, Webelos; and Sawyer Zook, second, Webelos.

Justin Robertson, second-year Webelos, won the Most Creative Car Design Award. The Best Paint Job Award went to Blake Haley, Tiger Den; John Ross, Wolf Den; Kjell Mullenix, Bear Den; and Seth Holiday, first-year Webelos Den.

Boy Scout Troop 59 is having its annual chili feed and first silent auction on Feb. 7. The chili feed will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway.

The cost is $5 for all-you-can-eat chili, vegetarian chili, baked potatoes and hot dogs. The money will help purchase camp stoves, tents and canoes.
