A major winter storm is heading toward Lawrence for the weekend — with the possibility of bringing more than a foot of snow.

“I think, for the entire storm, through about Monday morning, we’re going to see right around 10 to 13 inches,” said Ross Janssen, 6News meteorologist. “It’s going to be pretty significant.”

But before the snow starts, the Lawrence area will see a bit of a warming trend, with the high reaching 27 on Saturday, he said.

“Tomorrow is probably going to be our warmest day that we’ve had in a long time,” he said.

The storm will move in the late Saturday afternoon, he said.

“We’re going to see a brief period of freezing drizzle tomorrow during the late afternoon hours,” he said “Saturday night, I’m thinking after 7 o’clock in the evening, we’ll see some light snow flurries.”

Then the snow will continue and pick up in intensity, falling steadily Saturday night, with the low dropping to 23.

“For Sunday, it’s going to snow all day long and the snow is just going to pick up in intensity as the day goes on,” he said.

He said the snow would probably end on Monday morning.

“I’m guaranteeing, which is hard to do in weather, we’re going to get at least nine inches out of this,” Janssen said. “It’s a big storm.”
