Century-old home prepares for move

Work continues this week on a project to move a century-old home from 13th and Ohio streets to 10th and Kentucky streets.

On Friday, movers began sliding the home at 1309 Ohio off its foundation. Feb. 3 is the tentative date for the three-story, 2,200-square-foot home to roll through the streets to its new location at 1033 Ky.

The home, built in 1890, is being moved as part of a deal between the Kansas University Endowment Association and a private student-housing cooperative, the KU Student Housing Assn.

KU officials were considering demolishing the property to make way for new scholarship halls, but the co-op’s members wanted to use the home for an expansion effort.

Meeting

KU SenEx to discuss ‘arms-race’ resolution

Kansas University’s Senate Executive Committee, better known as SenEx, today is expected to discuss whether to support a University of Missouri-proposed resolution on curbing the so-called “arms race” among athletic departments within the Big 12 Conference. The meeting begins at 3 p.m. in the Regents Room in Strong Hall.

SenEx also is expected to consider further changes to a plan it has proposed for allocating next season’s supply of men’s basketball season tickets for faculty, staff and retirees. As proposed, the plan rewards seniority while also moving toward a lottery-based distribution system that will include tickets good for four, eight and 16 games.
