Deal leads Haskell past Ozarks, 93-80

A conference victory might not seem like a milestone, but Haskell Indian Nations University men’s basketball coach Jamie Morrison thought it would be.

“I really think that once we get that first one, our kids will gain so much confidence a few of them will fall in line,” Morrison said Friday.

He got his wish Saturday, as the Fightin’ Indians improved to 3-14 this season after a 93-80 victory over College of the Ozarks at Coffin Sports Complex.

Haskell senior Andy Deal sparked the Indians, scoring a game-high 26 points — including six-of-11 three-point attempts.

HINU had five players reach double figures as it shot 57 percent from the field. Chad Kaler scored 18, Corey Ladson added 15, Marcus Oliveira scored 11 points, grabbed nine rebounds and handed out seven assists, and Topah Spoonhunter added 10 points.
