V.O. Engel

? Services for V.O. Engel, 82, McPherson, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glidden-Ediger Chapel in McPherson. Burial will be later in McPherson Cemetery.

Mr. Engel died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in McPherson.

He was born Feb. 5, 1921, in Corn, Okla., the son of Ed and Bertha (Froese) Engel. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1941 and attended McPherson College. He lived most of his life in McPherson but also lived in Tulsa, Okla., and Lawrence.

Mr. Engel served in the U.S. Air Corps during World War II. He was a bookkeeper for Citizens State Bank and for the National Cooperative Refinery Assn., both in McPherson. He sold insurance and worked for Gulf Oil Co. in Tulsa. He returned to McPherson to work as a machinist at Moridge Manufacturing Co. in Moundridge and then as a service attendant for Consolidated Motors in McPherson.

Mr. Engel was a member of First Baptist Church in both McPherson and Farris, Okla. He also was a member of American Legion Post No. 24, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2715, and was a former member of the Exchange Club and Junior Chamber of Commerce.

He married Dorothy Seever on May 23, 1948, in McPherson. He married Jackie Oelrich Raymond on Aug. 3, 1973, in McPherson. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, David Engle, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Dennison Raymond, Reading, Mass.; two brothers, Lynn, McPherson, and Earl, Stone Mountain, Ga.; a sister, Eloise Hjerpe, McPherson; and five grandchildren.
