KU vs. Texas A&M notes

  • Kansas leads the all-time series with Texas A&M, 8-0.
  • KU coach Bill Self is 0-2 against the Aggies; Texas A&M head coach Melvin Watkins has gone 0-5 versus the Jayhawks.
  • KU is 2-0 all-time against the Aggies in Reed Arena. Kansas is 88-15 all-time versus schools from the state of Texas.
  • The Jayhawks won the first-ever meeting with Texas A&M, 78-52, Dec. 16, 1967 in Manhattan.
  • Texas A&M assistant coach Lew Hill played for Wichita State in the 1980s and was an All-Missouri Valley Conference selection his senior year. Hill played against KU one time. He led the Shockers with 10 points in an 81-56 loss Dec. 28, 1985.
  • Hill and first-year KU assistant Joe Dooley were members of the East Carolina coaching staff from 1994-98. During the 1994-95, season both were assistants, then Dooley became the head coach in 1996.
  • Texas A&M’s Keith Bean (Fontana), Bradley Jackson (Inglewood), Antoine Wright (San Bernardino) and Kevin Turner (Diamond Bar), along with KU’s Moulaye Niang (El Cajon) and Omar Wilkes (Los Angeles), hail from California.
  • KU routed A&M, 85-45, Feb. 26, 2003 in Allen Fieldhouse. Kirk Hinrich scored 23 points, while Nick Collison added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Keith Langford poured in 18 points off 8-of-14 shooting. Aaron Miles had 10 points and a game-high 10 assists. Bryant Nash grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds. Texas A&M was led by Leandro Garcia-Morales, who scored nine points on 3-of-8 shooting.
