SRS plans forums to review governor’s budget proposal

The state’s social service agency will hold public meetings to review Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ budget proposal which, if enacted, could result in hundreds of people being made homeless.

The Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services will host the meetings statewide on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Sebelius has requested $4.3 million to provide in-home health care to some of the more than 2,000 disabled adults on waiting lists.

But Sebelius has no plan to reverse a move that would drop 400 destitute adults from a pair of state-funded welfare programs.

On Tuesday, the meetings will be at 9 a.m. at the Topeka Area SRS Office, 500 SW Van Buren; and 3 p.m. at the Pittsburg Area SRS Office, 320 S. Broadway.

On Wednesday, the meetings will be at 9 a.m. at the Wichita Area SRS Office, 230 E. Wilson; and 1 p.m. at the Great Bend Area SRS Office, 1305 Patton Rd.
