Central United Methodist Church

A personal growth study will begin at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 18 at Central United Methodist Church, 1501 Mass.

This purpose-driven life study is intended for adults under 50. Those who are interested in attending should contact the church office at 843-7066.

Corpus Christi Catholic Church

Coffee and doughnuts will be available after Sunday Masses at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St.

The book club will meet at 1 p.m. Monday in Room 210 at the church.

Adoration will be from 7:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

First Baptist Church

The community is invited to join the congregation of First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive, at 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services Sunday, as the Rev. Molly Marshall of Central Baptist Theological Seminary will preach.

First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ

Guest organist will be Dina Evans at the 9 a.m. traditional worship service Sunday at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky.

Evans will play several selections from J.S. Bach. The chancel choir will sing “Open Our Eyes, Lord,” sung by soloists Jane Garvin and George Stewart.

First Presbyterian Church

The Rev. Emilee Whitehurst, associate pastor, will lead worship services at 8 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway.

During the services, Whitehurst also will ordain and install the church’s new officers.

New Hope Fellowship

The first public service of New Hope Fellowship, an independent and nondenominational church, will be at 10:15 a.m. Sunday at 1449 Kasold Drive.

Darrell Brazell will speak on “Encountering God, Experiencing True Community and Embracing the Spiritual Journey.”

Plymouth Congregational Church

Edith Guffey, associate general minister of the United Church of Christ, will be guest preacher at the 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. services Sunday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

Plymouth In-Depth Bible Class will have advance workshops for the 2004 theologian in residence, John Dominic Crossan. The first of 11 workshops will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

It will serve as an introduction to New Testament research and to the work of Crossan, an historian. Child care is available.

Trinity Episcopal Church

All are invited to attend the welcoming and seating of the Bishop Diocesan, the Rev. Dean Wolfe — the new Episcopal Bishop of Kansas — at 1 p.m. today at Grace Cathedral in downtown Topeka.

Wolfe, a Lawrence resident, will preach and celebrate at the special service.

Lay Eucharistic ministers will meet at 8 a.m. today in the junior high room of Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.

Adult Forum at 9:30 a.m. Sunday will be a continuation of the video, “Jesus in the Kingdom: Peasants and Scribes in the Earliest Christianity,” narrated by John Dominic Crossan.

Trinity Teens will meet at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the church for dinner and activities.

Trinity Lutheran Church

An adult education study on the church and homosexuality continues during the education hour at 9:45 a.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H.

Kevin Boatright and the Rev. Gary Teske will lead the study, “Journey Together Faithfully.”

The session is also repeated at 7 p.m. Wednesdays.

Ushers, altar care volunteers and greeters will be honored at a soup-and-salad lunch after the 11 a.m. service Sunday. There also will be a brief training session for ushers.

Trinity Lutheran will be host to a town meeting on homeless concerns from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday in the fellowship hall. People facing homelessness, social workers, care providers, city officials, business leaders, advocates and all interested people are invited to attend.

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence

A spiritual celebration, “Unitarianism: A Community and a Movement,” will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road.

State Rep. Paul Davis, D-Lawrence, will present a program, “Legislative Preview and Issues of Concern,” from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Coffee and fellowship will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Unity Church of Lawrence

Unity Church of Lawrence’s Continuing Education Program is offering an online class, “The Creative Process in the Bible,” starting Jan. 19.

The 10-week class explores the biblical account of the seven days of creation, presents a Unity perspective of the seven steps of the creative process and how you can become more of a creative person and enjoy more satisfaction in life. Those who complete the course will receive 10 Continuing Education Program credits.

Ann Sophia Marshall will teach the ancient technique of Jin Shin Jyutsu, a simple, natural way to stay healthy and joyful by using the hands to balance and harmonize the life force, at Unity Church, 901 Madeline Lane.

West Side Presbyterian Church

Ordination and installation of new officers for the coming year will take place during the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1204 Kasold Drive.

The newly ordained elders will be Mary Waugh and Rick Messer.

The annual meeting will take place Jan. 25 after the worship service and potluck dinner.
