Dean H. Stoneback

Services for Dean H. Stoneback, 81, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Clinton Presbyterian Church in Clinton. Burial will follow in Clinton Cemetery.

Mr. Stoneback died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Sept. 27, 1922, in Clay Center, the son of Harvey and Gertrude (Lippe) Stoneback. He moved to the Lawrence area in 1933. He attended Sigel Grade School, Liberty Memorial High School and Kansas University.

Mr. Stoneback farmed for most of his life on the southwest edge of Lawrence. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946. He directed the consolidation of nine schools into Wakarusa Valley School and served on the Clinton Township Board.

He was a member of Clinton Presbyterian Church, where he was the leader of several Sunday school classes.

He married Wilma Lee Johnson on Dec. 15, 1946, in Lawrence. She died Dec. 13, 1995.

Survivors include three daughters, Veronica Stoneback, Olathe, Linda Else, Eidson, Tenn., and LaDean Stoneback, Lawrence; a son, Bill, Lawrence; a brother, Ray G., Avon, Conn.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Family will meet with friends from 1 p.m. until service time Monday at the church.
