Big 12 Men Buffaloes end skid

Colorado stomps Savannah State, 89-57

? Colorado just wanted to have fun again, and Savannah State was the perfect tonic. Michel Morandais scored 21 points, leading Colorado to an 89-57 romp Thursday night.

Jayson Obazuaye added a career-high 17 points and Blair Wilson 16 for Colorado (7-4), which snapped a three-game losing streak. David Harrison had 12 points and eight rebounds.

Savannah State (1-15), which dropped its 11th straight game, got 14 points from Jamal Daniels and 11 each from Donald Carson and P.L. Henderson.

Colorado outshot the Tigers 56 percent to 35 percent and outrebounded them 44-32.

“I just told the guys we haven’t had a lot to laugh or smile about, and to just come out and have fun,” Buffaloes coach Ricardo Patton said.

Colorado, which bowed to No. 13 Kansas 77-62 Monday night, returns to Big 12 play Wednesday at Nebraska.

“We have to play with the same amount of confidence against the good teams,” Patton said. “We need to be able to play this well when there’s a little more weight on the ball.”

Morandais, relieved this week after being cleared academically to play the remainder of the season, looked like the same player who led the Buffs in scoring last year.

“I don’t think I’ve played well since the start of the season,” he said. “I have to try to get back to the level I was playing my junior year.”

Morandais scored six straight points to start a 21-6 run, and the Buffaloes led 71-41 with 8:28 remaining. Morandais had two free throws, a 17-foot jumper and a fastbreak slam dunk and later added two more free throws during the flurry.
