? Memorial services for Francis Maxwell Kennedy, 90, Washburn, will be in Washburn. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence, Kan.

Mr. Kennedy died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Lacon.

He was born April 7, 1913, in Lawrence, the son of Orin Oscar and Beulah Mary Adams Kennedy. He graduated from Kansas State University.

Mr. Kennedy was a practicing veterinarian in Washburn from 1946 until he retired in 1998. He was a World War II Army veteran in the veterinarian corps. He served as mayor of Washburn for several years and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and several other organizations.

He married Elizabeth Cowie on Nov. 22, 1940, in Kansas City, Mo., She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Elinor Everitt, Mannheim, Germany, Mary Beth Armentrout, Washburn, and Sandra Gilhouse, Baraboo, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to St. Joseph’s Nursing Home, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence.
