Kenneth Edward Doud Jr.

Memorial services for Kenneth Edward Doud Jr., 48, Lawrence, will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Mr. Doud died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital from unexpected complications of a longtime heart condition.

He was born May 19, 1955, in Woodruff, Wis., the son of Kenneth E. and Lucille (Snodgrass) Doud Sr. He graduated from Haskell Indian Nations University in 1975 with an associate’s degree in applied science in carpentry.

Mr. Doud worked for Local Carpenters Union from 1975 to 1987, when he became a business representative for Local No. 2279. He became area manager of Midwest Drywall/Heartland Specialty Contractors in 2001. He belonged to Lake Superior Band of Chippewa Tribe No. 359. He served on the advisory council of the Roger Hill Volunteer Center, was a member of the Corporate Volunteer Council of Douglas County and completed three years of service with the United Way of Douglas County Allocations Committee. He built homes for the needy with organizations such as Home Improve, Habitat for Humanity, the Cosmopolitan Club of Lawrence, HealthCare Access and the American Lung Assn., and served for five years with the Kansas State Highway Road-Clean-Up.

He married Laura “Laurie” Blumenstein on Nov. 21, 1972, in Michigan. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Karen Nirk, Owatonna, Minn., and Lorelei Doud, Lawrence; his father, Lac Du Flambeau, Wis.; five sisters, Jane Fountaine, Olympia, Wash., Sheryl Blumenstein, Mead, Wash., Norma Ristow and Sherry Nazer, both of Lac Du Flambeau, and Sally Anderson, Eau Claire, Wis.; two brothers, Jim Fountaine, Olympia, and Gary, Lac Du Flambeau; and a grandson.

The family suggests memorials to the Lorelei Doud Educational Fund, sent in care of the mortuary.
