Chester E. Unruh

? Services for Chester E. “Chet” Unruh, 84, Cassoday, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cassoday United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Cassoday Cemetery.

Mr. Unruh died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan.

He was born Aug. 6, 1919, near Greensburg, the son of Pete and Laura (Schmidt) Unruh.

Mr. Unruh was a medic during World War II, assigned to the Eighth Army Air Corps based in Blackpool, England.

He retired in 1983 after working 34 years for the Santa Fe Railroad, where he had been a foreman.

Mr. Unruh was a member of the Cassoday United Methodist Church, the Cassoday Lions Club, the Emporia Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

He married Virginia Reynolds on Aug. 6, 1946, in El Dorado. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Allan, Greenwich, Conn., and Jim, Lawrence; three daughters, Carol McLaughlin, Emporia, Sue Reece, Wichita, and Linda Polston, Herington; two brothers, Arthur, Wichita, and Jake, Broken Arrow, Okla.; a sister, Marjorie Unruh, Wichita; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.
